Not Your Grandmother's Mother Balls: DIY Natural Moth Balls

These moth balls are ridiculously simple to make, and they work!

You only need three ingredients:
Baking Soda
Cedarwood Himalayan Essential Oil
Water

This recipe is like making a dough, you want the mixture to be just wet enough to hold together. To wet and the balls will take forever to dry, to dry and they'll just crumble apart.

Step 1

In a small ball, combine 1/2 cup baking soda, 40 drops Cedarwood Himalayan eo & ~ 2 tbsp water.

Step 2

Mix everything together and create some small clumps to ensure that the mixture holds together. If it doesn't, add more water.

Step 3

Put the mixture into your molds and allow those to sit in a cool, dry place for at least 24 hours.

Step 4

Pop out your moth balls and place in closets, cupboards, chests etc. to keep moths away.

The one downside to these little cuties is that they're quite fragile. Using a good, flexible mold is the best way to ensure they don't break when you're popping them. We've also found smaller molds (therefore smaller moth balls) hold together more easily. However we have made this recipe in both a small heart shaped mold and a larger half-sphere mold with success.
