This balm is designed to fill a huge range of needs. Use it on dry & cracked skin, chapped lips and on areas that need extra protection from the elements (ie; cheeks).
We've also included variations for a pregnant belly balm & a diaper balm. Enjoy!
<Making a balm is a lot like cooking; you follow the recipe and your instincts.
The key to a perfect balm is consistency. Too hard or too soft just won't cut it.
This recipe should give you a perfectly smooth and set balm. But we recommend following the steps to test the consistency before letting it set entirely.
Also, keep in mind that the perfect lip balm may have a different desired consistency than the perfect diaper balm. If you want your balm to come out a little on the softer-side, slowly add more Jojoba. Test the consistency until you get what you're after.
Until the essential oil has been added, you can always put your mixture back on the heat and tweak it - don't be afraid to play & experiment. And most importantly, if you do find your perfect balm varies from this recipe; write down your proportions so next time its straight to the good stuff ;)
Ingredients
5 grams Beeswax
10 grams Shea Butter
90 ml Jojoba Oil
30 ml Calendula Macerate
7 drops Benzoin
12 drops Jojoba Rose
5 drops Sandalwood
5 drops Sweet Orange
5 drops Frankincense Co2
5 drops Sandalwood
3 drops German Chamomile
3 drops Lavender Highland
1 ml Calendula Co2
(Optional: Calendula Co2 is possibly the most soothing & healing ingredient we carry. It is amazing for diaper rash, eczema etc.)
Balm Base
Multi-Purpose Balm (Lips, Heels, Cheeks)
Belly Balm
Diaper Balm
Directions
Over a double boiler, melt the Beeswax & Shea Butter until completely liquid.
Remove from the heat and add the Jojoba Oil and Calendula Macerate.
Test & Tweak
Dip a clean spoon into your balm mixture.
Place the spoon (coated in balm) into the freezer.
After a few minutes, remove the spoon and use your finger to test the consistency of the balm.
Too hard? Add some Jojoba Oil & test again.
Too soft? Melt a tiny bit more beeswax and add it in, then test again.
Once you're happy with the consistency of your balm base, you can add your essential oils; follow the instructions for the balm you'd like to make.
Multi-Purpose Balm
Add the drops of Jojoba Rose, Benzoin & Sandalwood to your balm base.
Stir thoroughly to combine.
Your balm is now complete! It needs to set overnight. Pour it into the desired jar or container(s) and place it in a cool, dry place.
Belly Balm
Add the drops of Sweet Orange, Frankincense Co2 and Sandalwood to your balm base.
Stir thoroughly to combine.
Your balm is now complete! It needs to set overnight. Pour it into the desired jar or container(s) and place it in a cool, dry place.
Diaper Balm
Add the drops of German Chamomile and Lavender Highland into your balm base.
Optional: Add 1 ml Calendula Co2
Calendula Co2 is sticky and a bit difficult to work with but we promise it's worth the effort. Melt it into liquid before adding it to your balm by placing the sealed jar in a shallow bowl of boiled water.
Stir everything together thoroughly.
